Hazard perception test
DSA hazard perception tests are conducted by a Government Agency called the Driving Standards Agency or better known as the DSA.
The aim of the Hazard Perception test is to find out how quickly you are able to detect developing hazards coming up in the road ahead. A hazard is anything that might cause you to change speed or direction when you are driving. Learnere need a lot of training in how to spot hazards, because they are often busy thinking about using the vehicles controls and the process of driving that they forget to watch the road and traffic ahead. .
First you will get a short talk explaining how the hazard peception test works. You will also get a chance to practise with the computer and mouse before you start the test 'for real'. Then you will see video clips of real street scenes with traffic such as motor vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists. The scenes shot from the point of view of a driver. You have to notice hazards that are developing on the road ahead - that is, problems that could lead to an accident.
As soon as you see a hazard coming up in the video clip, you must click the computer mouse control.

How your Hazard Perception test is marked
You score points depending on how quickly you are able to identify the developing hazard. The test lasts about 20 minutes and you currently have to score 44 out of 75, but the pass mark may change at any time. The DSA however, will keep you informed.
Preparing for your Hazard Perception test
Your theory test and hazard perception test should be prepared for at the same time as you are having your driving lessons. The hazard perception test will be easier once you have hazards pointed out to you by a good driving instructor. When I am out with my pupils I mention to them both theory test possible questions & hazard perception test possible mouse clicks. They have great fun trying to identify a developing hazard.Check out my recommended learning process for understanding how to learn any new subject effectively. Learn effectively for DSA tests
