Fast learning Highway Code
to help improve memory

Fast learning the Highway Code is a structured way to go through the memory process of learning the Highway Code in a fun way, which not only means you remember more, you actually enjoy the learning process.
By learning the Highway Code you not only become a safer driver but you are guaranteed to know at least 75% of the answers to the theory test. There is no need to try & remember all 1,265 questions in your theory study books or cd's. The Highway Code contains all the rules of the road which you will need for the rest of your driving career.

Learning the Highway Code also gives you a great grounding for your driving test. I have met many students who skimped on their Highway Code knowledge, only remembering enough to pass their theory test and subsequently failed their driving test because a Highway Code rule situation came up, which they had not covered on their driving lessons.
Here is an example:
Do you know when you can't park on the right side of a road? You might answer.
"When there are double yellow lines".
You would be wrong because you have misread the question and used the word 'when' in the wrong way. When is a time, not a place. Double yellow lines are a place & the question would be "Where can't you park on the right hand side of the road"

Examples such as this are a necessary part of your driver training if you want to succeed as a good driver and are covered throughout your intensive driving course.
I have also met students who have taken as many as 5 theory tests & have never read the Highway Code. Wonder why they failed so many times!
Reading the Highway Code should not be carried out as if you were reading a newspaper or fiction novel. You are reading a technical book which should be carried out in a different way.

Highway Code fast learning study method

First of all go through the Highway Code in a leisurely way, flicking through the pages, looking at the content and index. Take a look at some of the pictures & road signs.
Next choose a topic that interests you and read that topic only, unless it is very short then you could look at another topic. Not any any particular order unless you want to.

On the next study session you might decide to look at the traffic signs. Here is a good way to remember the signs. Choose only one type of sign that is say, red circular, red triangles blue signs etc. Choosing only one type of traffic sign at a time helps your brain to focus more and results in less confusion. Your brain will, after you have looked at one type of sign only, file it away in your brain in the right order and the right meaning over a short time period.

Don't look at any more traffic signs in that session, but you may look at other sections of the Highway Code. This method of learning something new is called 'Chunking it down', that is, breaking each new topic into small sections and keeping the new topics a few as possible at any one study session.

At each new study session look at the previous topic you studied, this will reinforce your memory of that topic. Then start a new topic. Your Highway Code knowledge will then be a great benefit to your driving for both your theory test & driving test.
When you are confident about your Highway Code study you will be able to answer most questions on your study cd's or theory study book
